Pruritus ani (itchy bottom)
Pruritus ani is itching around the anal area causing a compelling urge to scratch. It is very common and often very frustrating. As well as itching, burning, soreness or pain may occur. The causes are different in everybody and include leakage of bowel motion or mucus from the anus onto the anal skin.
Pruritus ani is challenging to treat and usually involves lifestyle changes, with surgical interventions being rare.
